There were also discussions about providing passive provision for a connection from Old Oak Common station to HS1 instead (The report "HS2 Phase One - Review of HS2-HS1 connectivity and rail links to the Continent" dated November 2015). Although the tunnelling between Old Oak Common and Euston has not started yet, I understand the tunnelling machines are being assembled and the 4.5 mile twin tunnel drive will start soon.
