IA/00457/21 Fully successful DVSA's fleet of roadside check vehicles, specifically the ones that are usually Ford Galaxy vehicles with battenburg livery, and escort vehicles into check sites for inspection. 1) please advise whether any of the current fleet has blue emergency warning systems fitted anywhere on the vehicle. 2) IF the answer to the question 1 is no, please advise whether any vehicles have been fitted with such lighting at any point in the last 2 years. 3) IF the answer to questions 1 or 2 is yes, please advise whether the DVSA has authorisation from the Department for Transport for this lighting to be used on the public highway, or if it is in the process of doing so. If either of these is the case please advise of the legal changes that have been, or will be expected to be made to allow DVSA use of blue lights on the public highway. 4) IF DVSA are permitted, or are in the process of seeking permission to use blue lights, please indicate where these are, or will be fitted on the vehicles, and the purposes they will be used for. 5) Does the DVSA currently have, or is in the process or applying for extra road traffic law exemptions, that apply to the majority of other blue light services? If so, please detail the training DVSA is or will provide to its stopping officers to safely claim these exemptions, and detail the circumstances in which they can be claimed. 6) Please supply any policies, procedures or memorandums that have been issued to staff regarding the fitting, or plan to fit blue lights, or any changes or expected changes to road traffic law, changes or expected changes to driver training for staff, and if applicable, communication between the DVSA and the Department for Transport regarding any regulatory changes. 7) Please supply details of any expected phase out of the use of amber warning lights on the enforcement fleet. 8) Please supply details of the fitting, or planned fitting of flashing headlamps or flashing rear red warning lights to the enforcement fleet. 9) Please supply details of the fitting, or planned fitting of audible warning devices (siren, bullhorn or similar) to the enforcement fleet. 07/05/2021
