SLC currently has four sites from which it operates various functions supporting not only BIS but also the devolved administrations, Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS), Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and Department for Employment and Learning (DELNI). BIS | Student Loans Company | GPU-LM-2467 / SLC - 11 Carnegie Rd Hillington Park, Glasgow | BIS have now approved a Business Case on the topic of remaining in our existing facilities where the main points included in the Business Case were: to extend the contract with Verizon for the Washington Street Data Centre for 12 months, with the option of a further year on year renewal, from December 2014 to December 2016/December 2017; and to extend the lease of the Hillington site from August 2014 to December 2017. In addition to SLC's business requirement that the Comms room remains in Hillington, there is also an additional benefit in terms of space which, following the outsourcing of SLC's printing and mailing function, will enable Core Processing and Pre-Assessment work to be carried out in Hillington as opposed to Darlington, thus saving paying shift premiums in Darlington where space is in demand.
